Steelvault 5400 Hardware Components
The Steelvault 5400 and 5600 series storage arrays feature a similar architecture. The 5400 is a 4U standard depth, rack mount chassis while the 5600 is a 6U short depth, rack mount chassis. The 5400/5600 series feature from 8TB to 24TB capacity and can be configured as RAID 0 or RAID 5 for performance or redundancy. The system features 3 storage mounts within a single chassis. All drives within the system are hot-swappable; replacement units can be inserted with the system running without loss of video.
Redundant power supplies mitigate power failures; it is recommended that each power supply is connected to a different circuit to minimize the potential for system crashes as a result of power failure. An audible alarm indicates power supply failure; each power supply is hot-swappable. Power supply redundancy is provided in a 2+1 configuration. Despite redundancy, it is recommended that a UPS system with surge protection is used to prevent damage to the system from power spikes, brown-outs, or complete power failure.
The units are designed to operate within a wide range of environmental conditions. A supplemental particulate filter is provided; frequent inspection, cleaning, and replacement of the filter element is required to maintain adequate airflow inside the unit. The system will automatically shut down once the drive temperatures exceed the maximum recommended operating conditions. A clean filter will help alleviate the potential for shutdowns due to placement within dusty conditions.
